Performance
a bird you must not miss
Collaboration (American Dance Festival) 2022

“a bird you must not miss” was a performance collaboration with Taryn Griggs and Chris Yon, along with a group of dancers: Rae Cozart, Faith Fidgeon, Gerri Houlihan, Maddy O’Brien, Kendall Ramirez and Caitlyn Swett. I contributed video and animation elements to the scenography, and these animated motions became inspiration for choreographed movement. The piece’s title comes from the traditional British “magpie rhyme,” outlining various kinds of luck found upon seeing various numbers and arrangements of birds. The piece premiered at the American Dance Festival in Charlotte, NC.

Interstitial 3
Collaboration (SECCA) 2022

Interstitial 3 was a process-based collaboration with Taryn Griggs and Chris Yon, along with a group of dancers: Maddy Bailey, Dawanna Benjamin, Faith Fidgeon, Ciara Loscombe, Kendall Ramirez, Caitlyn Schrader, and Maurice Watson.
Interstitial 3 also featured EVERYWHERE'S INSIDE-OUTSIDE (a zoom dance video booth)—an interactive work inviting visitors to virtually dance with strangers in other people’s spaces. This piece functions as a public, abstract improvisation to address our isolation even as we transition out of quarantine, and a lens through which to reflect on this moment in the world.

Everywhere’s Inside-Outside (excerpt)
Interactive dance video installation
Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA) 2022-24
“Everywhere's Inside-Outside” is a collaborative dance video—an interactive work inviting visitors to virtually dance with strangers in other people’s spaces. The work was an approach to breaking down the artificiality of Zoom-based performance through layering and live “interactions” in a museum space. Over the course of several days, visitors to the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art could add a new layer of movement to an ongoing, evolving dance video. The base background layers were submitted by community members taking photos of their own personal spaces, including bedrooms, living rooms, and the sky above their homes. This piece functioned as a public, abstract improvisation to address intimacy, isolation and community as well as a lens through which to reflect on a uniquely alienating moment in our world (the pandemic lockdown).
Generously funded by SECCA and the Wake the Arts Center of Wake Forest University.
